ANNOUNCEMENT: Housing 400 Initiative

Good Morning,
The NC legislature has authorized funding to build 400 subsidized permanent supportive housing units in FY2006-07. During the month of August public meetings are being held around the state to talk about this issue. Be sure to attend one and get your voice heard about how best to make housing affordable and useful for NC's very low income residents.
The North Carolina Housing Coalition invites you to attend community meetings on the Housing 400 Initiative, featuring representatives from the N.C. Housing Finance Agency and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. These meetings will focus on the funding in this year's budget designated to provide 400 units of independent and supportive housing for North Carolinians with disabilities and the accompanying operating subsidy to keep them affordable to those at SSI-level incomes. For more information, please visit The North Carolina Housing Coalition.
The initiative was created in the 2006 Session of the General Assembly by legislation that provides $10.9 million of capital funding to the Housing Trust Fund and $1.2 million of recurring operating subsidy to the Department of Health and Human Services for housing.
As a side note: I am always looking for images that express housing issues in a way that makes people think. If you run across anything, send it on & it may find its way into a future post.
